The Quest for Collabware

I am looking for a decent collabware that supports intuitive task management, project management, document management and knowledge-base management plus some aspects of social networking for internal employees, specifically for a small business or a startup. So, I have done a brief preliminary research and highlighted the following products for a quick peek, and then will make an informed choice. The list includes:

  • QTask [https://website.qtask.com/index.php]
  • Community Server [http://communityserver.com/]
  • Graffiti CMS [http://graffiticms.com/]
  • Twiki [http://twiki.org/]
  • Novell Teaming+Conferencing [http://www.novell.com/products/teaming/]
  • Novell Groupwise [http://www.novell.com/products/groupwise/]
  • Cyn.in [http://cyn.in/]
  • Spicebird [http://www.spicebird.com/]
  • Mingle 2.0 [http://studios.thoughtworks.com/mingle-agile-project-management/]
  • activeCollab [http://www.activecollab.com/]
  • MindQuarry DO [http://www.mindquarry.com]
  • Clearspace [http://www.jivesoftware.com/products/clearspace]
  • ICEcore/kablink [http://kablink.org]
  • WebIssues [http://webissues.mimec.org/]
  • Horde [http://www.horde.org/]
  • Teamwork [http://www.twproject.com]
  • Simple Groupware [http://www.simple-groupware.de/cms/]
  • Project Pier [http://www.projectpier.org/]
  • ONEsite [http://www.onesite.com/]
  • gForge [http://gforge.org/]
  • O3 Spaces [http://www.o3spaces.com/]
  • Ofbiz [http://ofbiz.apache.org/]
  • openERP [http://www.openerp.com/]
  • opentaps [http://www.opentaps.org/]

You may expect short reviews of each in the future, but that’s not guaranteed. In any case, if you have any suggestion regarding any of these, do update me. That’s my itinerary for this weekend anyhow.

What a long list. Only Dotproject has all the features of a complete system, but it is not user friendly.

    Parameters. It should have.
    1. Project Planning/Estimation.
    2. Task assignment.
    3. Resource should have a separate interface to submit task updates. They should be able to fill Time sheets against the assigned tasks.
    4. Resources should be assigned across the projects.
    5. Over-allocation/Under-allocation of the resources should be visible to all the manager, so they can assign the resources effectively.
    6. GANTT charts (optional)

These are the very basic but must-have features that a Project Management Software should have. I am looking for Open Source only.

Dot project has almost all these features except Resource allocation view, but that is not a big issues, as you can write queries from the db. The biggest problem with dotproject is the interface. It is easy to install but end users find it confusing and hard to use.

some of these are as good as dotproject and also easy to use and intuitive with all the web 2.0-ish glitz.. the trouble is they want $$$s :D
I am going to compare them exhaustively.. what variables would you suggest for comparing these?
