MozillaCamp Delhi is being organised on February 10th, 2009 at the Indian Social Institute, Lodi Road New Delhi.

MozillaCamp Delhi will see web developers, designers, media and students coming together to celebrate emerging web technologies, localisation, internationalisation, and standardisation of web the Mozilla way.

Highligts of the event are:

• Discussion led by Seth Bindernagel, Director of Localisation (Mozilla)
• Discussion led by Arun Ranganathan, Standards Evangelist (Mozilla)
• A Talk by Mozilla Labs on Open-Web Development (through conferencing)
• An open Hack session led by Mozilla Labs through Conferencing.
• The event will also be live streamed on Mozilla AIR.

Registerations are beign made at the Barcamp wiki (link mentioned above) and if you use any Mozilla Toolie or are a Mozilla Loyalist, you wouldn’t want to miss the event. Over 80 regsiterations have been made. We know teh event is on tuesday but since Seth and Arun will be in Delhi only on Tuesday, so we cant be flexible about it.

Mohak has been doing a lot of hard work for organising the event. I have done my best to aide him. My company (OSSCube) has gladly sponsored us and is meetign all the expenses of the camp.

Day One: All Aboard!

I started for the Domestic Airport at Delhi at 10AM, July 18th. Terminal 1B. Once at the terminal, I was rather clueless of what to do and where to go. Its a good practice, thus, that people put placards/path-markers at public places to guide people such as me.

I noticed the Spice jet Entry Marker and proceeded to the gate. The security personnel granted me entry into the terminal after checking my ticket and my identity. I was also guided to the check-in counter of Spice jet by the same security personnel. It was, in any case, easy to find.

So, I approached the check-in counter, showed my ticket, took my boarding pass, and put a security tag at my luggage. “Welcome to Spice jet”. Yeah! Thank You.

Live in a coastal region? No? Inland? Continental? Never seen a ship all your life? Except the Movies and the TV? Oh! You live on the Internet? Great! So do I! Unfortunately, these days I am almost homeless. Why? A ship just disrupted my life. Some 2500 Miles away.

That’s Why!

Internet access in India and large parts of West Asia including the UAE, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia has been hit following breakdown of two undersea cables in the Mediterranean Sea.

A ship diverted from Alexandria (Egyptian Port) due to bad weather has severed the Indian-owned FLAG and the SEA-ME-WE cables (more details at Tech Tree). Net Services have fallen down to 60-70% level of services. The problem is expected to continue for another fortnight or so.

And So I have decided to make use of that fortnight in a compiling a list of ways a ship can disrupt your life, no matter how inland you live. Here’s my list (will be updated):

1. It can make your Internet crawls.
2. Where is my peace?
3. It can make sending an email a tedious process.
4. It takes away the caek of your life.
5. Using messenger becomes a tedious process as it keeps logging in.
6. GMail is always unavailable.
7. It leads to cyber tsunamis.
8. It can make you write crazy blogs.
9. It can be a safe way to bring extremely unsafe creatures to your city.
10. Last time I was in a ship, I was ship-sick.
