Introducing Abu Sez

Hello

For some time now, I had been running a fun & humor blog called Abu Sez.

From Today, Abu Sez will be an independent entity. While, I will continue with publishing the funny emails that we all recieve, soon Abu Sez will move in to original comic content, including cartoons and satires. I have plans for opening up Abu Sez for commercial authors as well (but not in near future).

Please visit http://abusez.in, go through the content and subscribe to the feed.

Also note that now there is a new twitter account to handle everything Abu Sez. Connect to me at @abusez then.

I am actively working on writing focussed blogs. The segregation of Abu Sez from KinshukSunil.com is step one. Soon, I will discontinue the reviews category from the blog and only focus on personal endeavours and insights at it aint no dessert, if therez no caek.

To the Hack and Back

On june 25th, my blog was hacked by one Mr. Rat and the Black Hacker. Genuinely and very humbly they thanked ‘the administrator for vulnerable scripts‘. Bleh! I learned some lessons then. My Plugins and Themes folders within wp-content were set to +777 which is not a very advisable setting. Now, I am wise. What followed was a series of precautions. I, now, use varied passwords for my profiles now. Simply put, I use a system of a base password + a unique site identifier – useful enough to make a unique password for all sites. And no more +777s. you can learn from my example.

Right here, in this post I will just post an update of what all has happened since.

This blog has undergone a lot of changes since then. I changed the theme – feedbacks for the previous theme were that it looked a lot more like a magazine than a personal blog. This theme fares better on that count. But I lost a lot of readers due to the hack. My subscriber count fell from 108 to 20, which is very sad. In the meanwhile, I have, also, been working on a number of new initatives:

There is Digimantra with Sachin Khosla. Digimantra is a technology blog for everyone from the newbies to the pro. I am currently looking after the Open Source and Gaming Sections of Digimantra. we also recently launched some cool services at Digimantra. Do Have a Look!

Then there is InGDIn or the Indie Game Developes India community – which I intend to make into a platform for all indie gaming action in India. Loads to do there yet. If you are interested in indie gaming, do have a look at the community.

I have also started working on The Boon Prophecy and actively looking for collaborators. The Boon Prophecy is a third person action adventure being developed by me and Yadu in the Ogre3D engine. The game tells the story of a Kargil veteran of the Indian army who faces a supernatural evil in his hometown of Sikri. Part 1 of a trilogy, it is still in the planning stage.

Not to forget, Chronosign.com is also making fast headways as a development garage of a couple of my friends. We are working on some fun Apps concepts which would be nice to use. At least we think so. More updates on this later.

Right now, I am also working on some major changes on the OSScamp community site. So keep your fingers crossed, a lot is about to come.

A lot of stuff is going on. There are good news on the front of Afterlife – the novel I was writing. I will soon share a reading draft of the same on my blog. While, i am also making some useful efforts for my career in the Music Industry.

All in all, It has been a very hectic week and I am sure there are many more hectic weeks coming. Will keep you posted.

Ciao

Day Two: Here Comes The Sun

0626 Hrs. Get a call from home. Rise and shine sleepyhead. Thomas is coming over too. He is a fellow camper from chennai; he needs a place to keep his luggage and to take a bath. I need some company; I invite him over.

He is there by 8AM, by the time I was fresh and ready. We start at 8:20 for the venue. I am the organizer for chrissake! I have to be there early, get things arranged and organized. But first – Breakfast!

Me and Thomas head over to the Kabini Canteen for a quick breakfast while discussing FOSS. It feels so great to be talking like you really know what you are talking about, even if you don’t. Post breakfast, Thomas and I start on our mission to find and reach the venue. I was to experience the vastness of the IISc campus, now. 40 minutes and 15 guides later, we reach the CEDT Building. Welcome to OSScamp Bengaluru!

Payday Payday…. I'm Hit…

Ah Well, Lame Joke! I know. But today I received my first salary. Well its not the first, technically, because my first salary was earned somewhere in late 2004/early 2005 when Subodh shared a token from its first profits amongst its founding members. That salary was a token amount of Rs. 100 (great idea by Bhupi) and I don’t rememebr what I did of it. But, I still have the envelope preserved :D

Anyhow, Since this is my first “job” job, we shall assume this as my first salary; and me mum was proud – with twinkling eyes she commented: her son has finally grown up (how wrong she is :P). I only wish I could have earned a better amount for her, but hey! it’s a start… beware world, I am coming :P

But most of you don’t even know about my job. So, I shall take this opportunity to update you on my professional front (I never update on personal fronts :P).

On 21st May 2008, I joined OSS Cube as a Community Manager, with a decent package to start with. A lot of my Job Profile is Hush-Hush and Shhh-Shhh so you get the idea, don’t you? Figures! Well, I am looking after a number of Community-related aspects of OSS Cube. Better?

That would be all for now, I guess. Oh! By the way, I am finally migrating to Linux – just very confused about which distro to use, but the mighty tux it will be. And yes, I am writing this post while running internet from an Ubuntu Live CD (funny, I never configured my IPs and yet the net works… learn windows, learn!).

Signing Off. Take Care

Some New Changes

Hi!

After a lot of experimentation and tidying up, I have finally settled for this theme. It is ‘WP-Polaroid’ by Adii. I like the theme and the whole final graceful look of it. For the first time, I also like how the way my ads are placed (finally yes). I had to do away with a lot of plugins that had extra stuff which I am not using. The Kitty once said, my blog needs to go on diet; I guess this is some diet indeed.

On other fronts, I just finished my GBO course. So Work-life now beckons me. And more soon… A lot of pending projects will soon find life. Just keep watching. And in case you need to know when I update my blog subscribe to it: as email newsletter or as an RSS feed.

Luv
